More details

  • The church of St Stephen was built from 1580 to 1614 at the site of an older church, but only acquired its present-day appearance in the late 18th century. Next to the church is a thirteenth century bell tower built at the time of the earlier church, which is immediately evident when observing the differences in architectural style.
  • The church is situated on Andrea Antico Square, named after a Renaissance period composer and creator of musical notation born in Motovun in the 15th century. Here you will also find the 12th century Municipal Palace and the cistern that used to supply Motovun with water.
  • Nowadays this square is the main open-air stage for the Motovun Film Festival, held every year in July.
