Punat

  • Location

    Punat

Punat is one of the largest nautical centres and a centre of olive farming on the island of Krk. It is popular among lovers of family holidays and natural environments due to its pleasant atmosphere of a typical coastal island town. It is considered both one of the youngest settlements on Krk, and an important historical centre. The dukes of Krk once used to walk its paths, while today it is frequented by cyclists, adventurers, sailors and lovers of fine wine and olive oil.

More details

  • Be sure not to miss Košljun, a small island to which you'll be taken aboard one of the barkajoli boats that make the trip every 10 min during the peak season. There you'll discover many of the valuable artefacts that monks that have been on Košljun for over 1,000 years have preserved over the centuries. An important note for visitors: swimming is not permitted on Košljun and appropriate clothing is required.
  • Here is something completely mind-boggling about Košljun: on the just 0.072 km² covered by this islet there are 540 registered plant and mushroom species, which is almost half of all the plant species registered in all of Great Britain.
  • Visit the ski lift in Punat Bay – one of the most up-to-date in all of Europe. Get ready for the excitement of water-skiing or wakeboarding and plenty of other great content.
  • In Punat you can also take part in attractive night and day fishing trips, diving and tours of the surrounding hills on marked hiking and cycling trails.
  • Punat features a municipal beach suitable for families with small children, while around Punat and especially in Stara Baška you'll be delighted by the crystal clear sea and the stunning secluded pebble beaches that can only be reached by sea (taking taxi boats from Punat harbour).
  • If you are on vacation with your children be sure to take them to the aquarium in Baška on the southern end of the island of Krk (11 km away). In the 20 aquariums you'll see some 100 species of Adriatic fish and sea snails.
  • You'll surely want to sample the local specialities. Our recommendation: lamb goulash with traditional šurlice pasta, tasty locally grown Swiss chard and broad beans and Kvarner Bay scampi or fish. Bon appétit!
  • We certainly recommend you also sample the renowned olive oil from Punat, known far and wide not only as excellent food, but also for its medicinal qualities. Is there any better souvenir or gift for a loved one or – why not – for yourself?
