Your ride through the mild hills of the Baška region will begin in the village of Zarok, right across the bridge over Vela Rika river. Take the 12 km macadam road along the river and merge onto a short asphalt path that will take you to a crossing (Dlaga) towards Batomalj and the shrine of the Virgin Mary on the Hill, one of the oldest Marian shrines in Croatia. Here you will turn right, again onto a macadam road. This road will lead you to the village of Jurandvor, where the Baška tablet, a priceless Old Croatian artefact written in the Glagolitic alphabet, was discovered in the Church of St. Lucia in 1851. At the crossing in Bravarovo, turn left and ride across the pastures to the Baška valley. Prepare yourself, as this part of the route is more difficult, narrower and rockier. After a mild descent towards the Sopot crossing, you will enter the village of Draga Bašćanska, which is intersected by the 45th parallel. Continuing to ride alongside the Vela Rika river, which will be on your left, you will reach the plateau of Pod Frgačići. A short climb will take you to the Church of St. Roch, where you will continue along an asphalt road towards your destination in Baška.

  • If you like mountain biking, climb the shepherd’s trails to Veli vrh (at 541m above sea level) and Obzova peak, where you can take in the most beautiful view of the neighbouring islands and the mountains surrounding Rijeka bay at 569m above sea level (yes, this is the highest island peak in Croatia).
